Tropheops sp."masimbwe"

Tropheops sp."masimbwe" (formerly known as Tropheops novemfasciatus) can be found south from Monkey Bay in the southern part of the lake. They are living there in shallow bays where they prefer to stay around and between the Vallisneriabeds as close as possible to the rocks.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 11 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 13 cm, females grow to about 9 cm.

Tropheops sp."masimbwe" can be reasonable intolerant against other inhabitants. You can best keep this species with multiple females, a lot of hiding places and vegetation like vallisneria.

In the lake they are feeding themselves with algae taken from the plants. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix. Food rich of algae like spirulina pellets or flakes is very important to them so this must not be missing on their menu.
